Neuralink Advances ’Bionic Eye’ Project with Clinical Trials in Spain and California
Neuralink has quietly initiated a clinical trial in collaboration with the University of California at Santa Barbara, as listed on ClinicalTrials.gov. The study explores brain-computer interfaces to restore vision in blind patients using artificial intelligence. While human trials have yet to begin, the experimental technology aims to enable facial recognition, outdoor navigation, and reading through a digital system integrated into the brain.
The project is part of Neuralink's broader vision, including the Blindsight chip, designed to restore sight. Currently tested only in monkeys, Blindsight targets a 2030 launch, with aspirations to generate $1 billion annually by 2031. The company is also developing Telepathy, a mind-controlled device for external hardware, and Deep, aimed at treating tremors.
